News Reporter

Reports to: Regional Editor

Position Summary: Responsible for researching and writing stories on a daily basis. Also assist with writing for special sections as needed. We are excited to offer Vlog and You Tube channel reporting that you will help launch in the community. Scene on scene news stories with recorded interviews for complete multimedia reporting to connect the community to our audience like never before with our award-winning publication.

Essential Functions/Percentage of Time Spent on Each:

Writing stores, interviewing, attending meetings and take photos – 60%

proofing / reviewing pages – 5%

Editing and proofreading stories – 10%

Assist with organizing story assignments, answering calls and dealing with the public – 25%

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma. Journalism Degree and or experience preferred.

Experience: Previous newsroom experience a plus. Experienced journalists will be considered for full time employment.

Specific Skills: Must be an excellent communicator and listener. Type quickly and accurately. Familiarity of AP style a plus. Grasp of grammar, good writing practices. Time management and critical thinking. Knowledge of page design.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions: Need for a flexible schedule. Out of office on assignment. Some nights and weekends.
